History & Culture
Columbus was founded in 1812 at the confluence of the Olentangy and Scioto Rivers and has been the State Capitol of Ohio since 1816. In 1831 the first National Road reached Columbus, making is a hub for cross-country transportation. The city was a major base for the volunteer Union Army during the Civil War and has been the home of Ohio State University since 1870. With a diverse economy Columbus has become the home of a number of different industries, making it a great place for emerging jobs.

Columbus is served by cross-country Interstate 70, linking it with the east and west coasts. Interstate 71 is a north-south interstate that links the city with Cleveland and Cincinnati. The Central Ohio Transit Authority offers bus transportation throughout the city. There is also an extensive network of bike trails throughout the city.
